Marie LaForte playing the accordion piece written by Dominic Frontiere.

I recorded Scherzo about 2008 while living in a condo in Florida. It isn’t perfect since I had not touched an accordion for probably 30 or more years. I went on a buying spree on Ebay back then to try to find the Excelsior Symphony accordion that my Staten Island music teacher owned. He let me play it at the studio and also allowed me to take it to school (Performing Arts in Manhattan). I always seemed to play better on his Excelsior.

While in school in Manhattan, I studied with Joe Biviano. Joe had given my this song Scherzo to learn and told me that Dominic Frontiere wrote Scherzo and had also been a student of his.

Well once again, I stopped playing the accordion around 2010. I had to give up some things to take care of others. Now, I can still play a bit, but the instrument is almost half of my body weight and extremely hard for me to hold. I won’t give up though. One day at a time.

My goal is to play Scherzo like I did when I was 18! Yikes, that is sooooo many years ago.

My 2008 version of Scherzo on the Accordion. I had a digital recorder and played some background to the song.

It is a fast song, so maybe you should have your morning coffee before pressing PLAY!

I gave up playing the accordion at about 19 years old. Several years later, I bought a Rhodes piano, got a trio together and worked with the trio in many clubs and restaurants on Staten Island. After that, I had the privelege to work with many wonderful Club Date Bands all over New York State, New Jersey and oh dear I can’t remember where else.

When I started my move to Florida, I once again was lucky to have met many great musicians. I became friends with many of them while live music was still everywhere in Fort Lauderdale. I only formally worked at a few clubs/restaurants but I sat in with the wonderful musicians on many occassions. I consider myself very lucky to have known so many wonderful singers and musicians. Perhaps, it is not too late to do it again!
